At the 33rd annual Country Cares event for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, country legend Randy Owen took center stage — not with a song, but with the kind of legacy that speaks louder than music: one of hope, compassion, and relentless dedication.
For over three decades, Randy has been the beating heart of Country Cares, rallying the country music community around St. Jude’s mission: Finding cures. Saving children. The program has since raised hundreds of millions of dollars, thanks to Randy’s vision and leadership.
In this red-carpet interview, he recalls meeting Danny Thomas, founder of St. Jude, who asked Randy to bring the country music family on board. That moment in 1989 sparked one of the most impactful charity movements in music history. When Danny became ill, Randy stepped in to speak at the Country Radio Seminar — and the rest is history.
Today, nearly every country artist who walks through St. Jude’s doors is part of Randy’s living legacy. As he put it best: “It was meant to be.”
